“It Feels Like a Hug!”

Children who come into our center often arrive traumatized & frightened. Sometimes they have been awake all night, and haven’t even had breakfast. We try to minimize the trauma these precious ones experience by creating an environment of warmth and security.

One of the ways we do this, is by wrapping them in a soft, warm quilt. There are a number of quilting groups that contribute to this small but powerfully effective effort, and Dolores Mountain Quilters is one of them.

Not too long ago, we had a child come in shivering and frightened. As I wrapped her in a soft, pink quilt whose fabric was adorned with bows and butterflies, I asked her if how she liked it. I heard her whisper, “It feels like a hug.”

As the child advocate, I like to tell them that each quilt, every stitch, is made by someone who cares about them.

Dolores Mountain Quilters, The Linus Project, and other groups, businesses and individuals, are what make it possible for us to respond appropriately to the many children in our community, experiencing crisis.

We invite you to come visit the center and take a short tour of our facilities. Please also Like us on FB! After all is said and done, protecting our children is protecting the future of our community, and requires ALL of us to participate.

Thank you again, to all of you who contribute time, finances, materials, stuffed animals, quilts and services.

If you would like to donate, you may mail us a check, drop it off in person (when you stop-by for a terrific cup of coffee) or click on the DONATE link on our homepage.

Thank you and have a terrific week!
